A fox saw a young bird on the branch of a tree. The bird
had some food in its mouth. The fox was hungry. It looked at the
food. It wanted the bird’s food.
“You are a beautiful bird,” the fox said. “But can you sing?”
“Of course I can sing,” the bird thought. “The fox is very
stupid. All birds can sing.”
The bird opened its mouth and began to sing. It dropped
the food from its mouth and the fox caught it.
“Yes, you can sing,” the fox said, “and you are very
beautiful. But you aren’t clever.”
And the fox ran away with the bird’s food in its mouth.

                狐狸和小鸟
一只狐狸看到树枝上有只小鸟。小鸟的嘴里衔着食物。狐狸正饿着肚
子，它盯着那些食物，想把它弄到手。
“你真是一只漂亮的小鸟，”狐狸说，“但是你会唱歌吗？”
“当然会，”小鸟心想，“这只狐狸真笨，所有的鸟都会唱歌。”
小鸟刚张开嘴开始唱歌，食物便从它嘴里掉了下来，让狐狸得到了。
“是的，你会唱歌，”狐狸说，“而且很漂亮。可是你很笨。”
然后狐狸叼着食物跑走了。
